Item Description

The human immune system is an impressive defence mechanism, capable of carrying out immune surveillance to eliminate damaged or abnormal cells such as cancer cells, recognising and destroying infectious organisms. The first line of defence occurs in the body’s tissues. Patrolling macrophages (large scavenger cells) engulf foreign invaders and call upon powerful T-cells to join the fight. T-cells, manufactured by the thymus gland, escalate the immune response and secrete chemicals that disable or destroy viruses. Increased immune activity stimulates the production of antibodies, which ‘remember’ particular invaders and produce a faster and stronger response should the virus strike again. Direction for use
