Multidophilus - 30 Caps

Item Description

Research suggests that friendly intestinal flora work to benefit the body by several mechanisms. They can inhibit the growth of other organisms through competition for nutrients, prevent gut wall adherence of pathogens by physically occupying attachment sites, and lower the pH of the colon making it more acidic and less suitable to the growth of dangerous bacteria. Thus, healthy bowel flora normally provides a barrier to invading organisms, but pathogens can become established when the integrity of the intestinal environment is upset through stress, illness, antibiotic therapy and changes to diet.
Lactobacilli have long been noted for the role they play in the prevention of, and defence against disease, particularly those of the gastrointestinal tract and vagina. Common parasitic infections such as giardiasis, cryptosporidium or illness due to pathogens such as salmonella, campylobacter and E.coli can be avoided by the use of probiotics. Not only do beneficial bacteria protect the body from a variety of toxins; they also promote overall health by aiding in the proper assimilation and metabolism of nutrients.
Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) are non-digestible short-chain polysaccharides that feed friendly bacteria. Human studies show FOS increases bifidobacteria and lactobacilli while also reducing the colonies of dangerous bacteria.
Thompson’s Multidophilus is an extra high potency (one-a-day) formula combining lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium bifidum and L.bacillus delbruekii (bulgaricus spp) at amounts of 5 billion organisms per capsule. Each capsule contains FOS to ensure the continued growth of beneficial bacterium in the colon. Enteric coating means that the active bacterium are delivered to the intestines, therefore bypassing the harsh environment of the stomach which can destroy up to 98% of Acidophilus.

Direction for use
Adults - 1-2 capsules a day (one Hour before meals), or as professionally prescribed.

Indications for Use
Thompson’s Multidophilus formula can aid in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by campylobactor, salmonella, e-coli, shingella and giardia. People suffering from constipation, diarrhoea, candida overgrowth and urinary tract infections may also benefit. Probiotics have also been used prophylactically to prevent travellers diarrhoea caused by enterotoxigenic E-coli.

Multidophilus is particularly effective in counteracting the side effects of anitbiotic use such as diarrhoea and candidiasis. Research supports the use of acidophilus both during and after antibiotic adminstration with doses of approximately 10 billion organisms required.

Some researchers recommend the regular use of probiotics to encourage proper nutrient absorption and immune protection.

Contraindications
Probiotics are generally considered safe and are not associated with any side effects.
