What it does:
Sandalwood is one of the most important fragrances used in Indian religious practices to encourage peace, wisdom and insightfulness. It also has many healing applications for the body. The oil has a tonic, moisturising effect on the skin, it is useful for cracked, chapped, itchy and dry skin when added to massage blends, spritzers and facial oils/steams. Sandalwood is also antiseptic, expectorant and calms spasm in the respiratory tract – try it in steam inhalations and chest rubs for sore throat and bronchial coughs. It may also be used in a douche for relief of the discomfort of minor cystitis.
Aroma: soft, deep, warm, balsamic, rich, woody. A base note.
Blends well with: benzoin, black pepper, clary sage, chamomile, frankincense, fennel, geranium, grapefruit, rose, jasmine, neroli, mandarin, petitgrain, myrrh.
Caution: do not take internally. Essential oils should always be blended with a base oil (such as sweet almond oil) before being applied to the body.
